INDEPENDENT WOMEN DIRECTORS
Panel Discussion

Saturday, November 10, 2:40 PM

Summary:
Women Directors on Telling History: Bringing Robert Mapplethorpe & Emily Dickinson Alive on Screen.

When a great artist is no longer with us, how do we begin to tell his or her story? From all of the research, what truths do we choose to include? How do we interpret their work, attempt to bring it alive? Hear from award-winning filmmaker & Guggenheim fellow Madeleine Olnek (WILD NIGHTS WITH EMILY) and two-time Sundance-winning director, Ondi Timoner (MAPPLETHORPE) about how they respectively put the complex lives of Emily Dickinson and Robert Mapplethorpe on paper and then brought them to the screen.
