Laura and her mother Jana have the same problem: men.  Actually, Jana’s problems are more serious, so to speak: she can’t love a man who hates the Poles or who wears a ski jacket to a concert.  Laura’s problems are more conventional: she can’t make up her mind.  So what happens when Jana’s past becomes Laura’s present?  Great fun, that’s what. Throw in a grandmother whose only question is “Do you have a boyfriend yet?” a more than slightly unconventional best friend, and the women at the beauty salon and you’ve got a plot made for Desperate Housewives.  This Czech chick flick, based on a very popular Czech novel, was joyously received at the Cannes Film Festival. ~ Nick Salerno.
