From Argentina comes this romantic film which plays out its dynamics against the background of 20 years of national political disorder. Jorge, a writer with a modicum of success, meets Laura and – if it isn’t exactly a case of love at first sight — it’s certainly a meeting of soul mates. The earth moves. But Jorge has a fear of commitment and Laura is unwilling to be kept dangling at a distance. They part. Jorge’s muse deserts him. Laura finds a new love. They meet again. Now what? SAME LOVE, SAME RAIN is not a comedy. It’s a Romance, with a capital R. The Romantic in you will warm to this tale of love not based merely on sex, but of love and passion in the thirty-fortysomething generation, with the main characters trying to take control of their own destiny rather than relying on group therapy. Directed by Juan José Campanella, who returned to his native Argentina and made this film after directing semi-schlock in the US. ~ Nick Salerno
