You will love this film! Eddie is a none-too-attractive junk collector; his best friend and co-worker is either mentally challenged or perpetually drunk or both. But Eddie is a very unusual junk collector. He’s warm and kind and decent and caring and he reads and reads and reads. I mean, he reads. He reads Romeo and Juliet. The plot thickens: two smalltime crooks hire Eddie to help their sister pass her high school exit exams. The bitchy girl is more interested in a Gypsy liquor salesman than in Shakespeare. When she finds herself pregnant--fearing that her brothers will castrate her lover, she tells her brothers that Eddie has raped her. And then, just when you think the film is heading towards a tragic ending, it becomes its most lyrical and emotional. One of the sweetest films in recent years, a don’t miss experience. No wonder that EDI was Poland's official entry for the Best Foreign Film Oscar. ~ Nick Salerno
