This legendary love affair of French literary lioness Marguerite Duras and Yann Andrea, her 38-years younger lover, plays out against the gorgeous coast of Brittany. Duraspast her prime, devoid of inspiration, living in an alcoholic hazefound new life in the arms of a philosophy student with whom she spent the last years of her lifealmost 15 years. Duras met Andrea when, to discuss a screening of her film India Song, she visited the university he was attending. When he asked if he could write her, Duras gave him her address. Andrea then wrote her many letters every day for five years. When he stopped writing, the reclusive Duras summoned him. Yes, its all true. And what makes the film peculiarly interesting is that it only vaguely questions the powerful bond between the lovers: it takes it for granted and goes from there. Duras, born in Indochina, is probably best known to Americans for her novel The Lover (which became a film of the same name) and the screenplay for Hiroshima Mon Amour. And here she is played by LEGENDARY Jeanne Moreau. ~ Nick Salerno
